Local owners . . .

The Bean family moved to the north Willamette valley over twenty years ago, they chose the area for its simplistic beauty, bounty and strong sense of community.  For them, this small farming community was the perfect place to raise a family and make good friends.  In 2014 the Bean’s decided to join their farming friends and began growing filberts on their property.  Their involvement in the filbert industry as well as several award-winning local northwest restaurants including Southpark Seafood in Portland, Oregon and Hudson’s Bar & Grill in Vancouver, Washington helped spark the idea (and the name) for a farm-to-table restaurant in the historic colony town of Aurora, Oregon.

However, the real inspiration came to Bernice Bean while on vacation in Italy.  There she saw how restaurants in small towns served as the gathering spot for locals; it was a place for friends and family to live, laugh and love.  For the Bean’s their dream is that Filberts creates this sense of community and becomes a place for locals to come together and create memories over great food.

The actual restaurant is located on Highway 99E in the historic colony district of Aurora, Oregon and was constructed as an addition to the original Mohler farmhouse built in 1865.   The new building was designed to emulate the historic colonial architecture of the original house, and features peaked gables, large picture windows and period style wrought iron sconces.  The inside will mirror the same colonial design elements and will express a combination of simplicity and elegance.  An outdoor veranda overlooking the original orchards will be great option for outdoor dining.

At its core, the menu will focus on fresh products from the local community. The recipes are hand-crafted by several award-winning chefs, including Southpark’s Chef Chris Robertson, Hudson’s Chef Ray Delgado, and the Master Chefs Joseph Mollerus and George Goodrich.   Signature menu items include: Fresh Oregon Pear and Chicken Salad, locally harvested greens, sliced pears, house roasted candied filberts, blue cheese, heirloom tomato, herb vinaigrette; Home-Style Scratch Meatballs prepared with local ground chuck and pork, fresh garden herbs, garlic, plum tomato sauce topped with fresh ricotta and pesto; Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich a mouthwatering local chicken breast, dipped in a house-made buttermilk batter served with a delicious house-made sweet onion and bacon marmalade, black pepper mayonnaise and local grown arugula; Sizzling Iron Skillet Chicken and Dumplings, savory pan gravy and roasted northwest root vegetables; Oregon Pear and Willamette Valley Filbert Tart, a delectable blend of crème anglaise, Knob Creek Chantilly topped with fresh local pears and house roasted locally grown filberts.
